After much assumptions and speculations by the people of India regarding Team Anna stepping into active political arena, on 2nd August, 2012 at 5pm, Anna Hazare finally raised the curtains and proposed forming a political alternative as an answer to the unresponsive government. As always this decision of team Anna received different remarks including both positive and negative responses from various fraction of the society.
As said by key team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal, that it would not be a political party but an “andolan” or movement. Infact, he made it very clear that their aim is not to grab power, but to end the Delhi centric government and take governance to the villages and people. In a recent interview, Mr. Kejriwal stated very clearly that the basic aim of team Anna’s political alternative will be to end corruption and passing of Jan-Lokpal bill.
Now, the main question that pops up is- is team Anna’s political alternative the ultimate solution to corruption?
It’s a bitter truth about human mentality that whenever a person gains popularity and wealth, his hunger for power begins. In just two years we have seen how India Against Corruption(IAC) led by Anna Hazare have gained huge popularity, so as common Indians the fear of team Anna’s political alternative, being a hunger for power is also very much obvious. Also it’s said that politics is a dustbin, and it is believed that joining politics is the beginning of a person’s downfall. So, whether team Anna’s decision to jump on the dustbin, results in squaring away the dustbin or it brings downfall for India Against Corruption, that will be decided by time and by the people of India.
Sticking to my personal views, I do support team Anna’s decision to give a political alternative. By looking into the stats, one can perhaps say that corruption has turned into an epidemic and for the eradication of such epidemic, a completely different kind of fight is of utmost need. Although, this decision of team Anna is being criticised by many, but what I feel is in India if we launch a battle against the system and we want to win it, then we must have to continue our fight being a part of the system. Also, what I believe is to accomplish anything one must find solace in true devotion and take up a stand. Being diplomatic can’t promise one a win. Team Anna had been fighting for a long time against corruption and the corrupt political system. Even though this fight managed to create a chaos in Indian politics, but wasn’t that success in bringing out fruitful results. However, his political alternative might do the tricks and help to root out corruption. It’s true that just a simple political alternative can never bring a drastic change, however we can expect in the coming years, the political system will be totally different, from the way it is today.
In today’s date an impression has been created that, whoever wants to join politics and fight elections is someone who is hungry for power. According to most people perhaps, politics is for the filthy people, so the good ones should stay away from it. But, we have perhaps forgotten that Lal Bahadur Shastri, B.R. Ambedkar, Sardar Patel everyone were politicians and fought elections, but the only difference is, at that time entering politics was termed as patriotism, but today if a person joins politics he is termed as someone who is in hunger of wealth and power. So, it’s time to change this mentality and thought process and at present Anna’s political alternative is the only ray of hope. But, can team Anna and India Against Corruption really prove to make a difference?? Only 2014 can give us this answer.
