With utmost respect to the Assamese media fraternity I would quote that, it's high time for the Assamese media to grow up.
After music maestro Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's wife Priyambadh Patel visited Guwahati, the news was highlighted for weeks in almost all news channels and newspapers of Assam. I do very well understand the importance of the news, but why was it flashed as breaking news and why all news bulletin started and ended with this particular piece of news, I didn't understand that. Also, this news item ate up almost half of a news bulletin, I totally didn't get the logic behind it.
The above instance is pretty acceptable but, whatever is happening right now, can't be accepted at all. Assamese media, both print and electronic have been constantly focusing on the controversy regarding the relationship between Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and Lata Mangeshkar. This has certainly bowed the heads of every Assamese. I know about the freedom of PRESS, but things always doesn't go technically, there are other aspects as well. With sense of freedom, there is also a sense of responsibility as well. I don't think the media has achieved any heights or done something applauding by focusing on this news item. Rather than giving importance to the words of Priyambadh, a lady who had left Bhupen da to lead a lonely life four decades ago, the media should have valued the sentiments of the Assamese people and their love for Bhupen daa. I just want to convey to the Assamese media that sometimes, decisions should also be taken with heart, and not always with brain.
I request the readers, not to wrongly interpret me as I am not blaming the media, but yes I am just trying to point out the faults. In India media is regarded as the forth pillar of democracy, and thus possesses a great power, and so this should always be kept in mind that with great power comes great responsibility. At least the departed soul and that too of a legendary person like Dr.Bhupen Hazarika should not have been targeted for the sake of TRP.
