After much of speculations pondering over peasant leader and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity(KMSS) President Akhil Gogoi’s political impends, finally the curtains raised when on 15th July’2013 Mr. Gogoi announced the launch of a new political party in Assam by KMSS, the organization headed by him. With this Akhil all set to begin the second innings of his political career from September next year.
For some Akhil is simply a young boy who has yet to learn a lot, for some perhaps merely a TRP maker, however for a section of the society Akhil is certainly the heart throb. Support him or simply loathe the ideals of this man, but one certainly can’t deny the fact that in the present scenario when Assam is starving for a strong opposition and is in sheer need to address its problems, Akhil Gogoi through his organization has proved to be an one man army and has always addressed the problems faced by the state. Being more specific, the gap of an opposition has been filled by Akhil Gogoi and KMSS. Be it price hike, demand of land pattas and off course the massive protest against the Mega Dams can never be sidelined. In fact, perhaps it’s only due to the continuous protest by KMSS the fate of the Subansiri Mega dam is still being indecisive.
Akhil Gogoi, once a close aide of Team Anna but later separated his ways after the rift. He even refrained from being a part of Arvind Kejriwal’s political alternative, the reason that Akhil cited was that, the common man aren’t ready yet for a new political party. According to Akhil the country needs to be first prepared for a political alternative, especially those living in the villages, to which the idea about Swaraj must be imparted. However, merely after about one year of Akhil’s denial to join Kejriwal, adducing the mentioned reasons, Akhil Gogoi himself today decides to step in the active political arena. Does this signify that with just an interval of one year the people have been prepared and are ready for a political alternative? Or the reason for Akhil’s denial to join Arvind’s party was because Akhil had plans of his own. Whatever might the reasons but, it’s definitely not easy to judge as trying to read a politician’s mind is perhaps somewhat similar to separate sugar from its solution with water.
So, in the midst of all the happenings, political scenario of Assam which is pendenting without any opposition something unprecedented intervening Assam’s politics is certainly the call of the hour, be it in the form of a new political party or any other.
Starting from CNN IBN Young Indian leader Award to becoming the first ever to win a nation RTI Award, Akhil has added many feathers to his activism hat for his contribution towards the needy. Be it his awards or by mobilizing mass population against the numerous anti-government policies, over the years Akhil Gogoi certainly has flourished as one of the strongest pillars of the activism world and managed national acclaims.
Amidst all Akhil Gogoi has assuredly won multitudinous hearts. But there lies immense vastness between winning hearts and winning elections. Certainly, the path from clogging the streets with anti-government slogans to being a part of the government itself will never be an easy task and off course won’t be devoid of hurdles. But, certainly Assam would voraciously be waiting to find out how Akhil Gogoi drives along in this new journey
